| Abstract: | Ferroptosis which is an iron-dependent regulating cell death characterized by intracellular reactive oxygen species is a newly discovered form of cell death. In this paper, we summarized the development of the concept of ferroptosis, the mechanism of ferroptosis, and the latest research progress in ophthalmic applications which mainly in corneal diseases，retina pigment epithelium，diabetic retinopathy，retinal ischemia reperfusion injury，glaucoma ，retinoblastoma and retinitis pigmentosa. The mechanism of the role of ferroptosis in the above-mentioned ophthalmic diseases is discussed, opening up new ways for the research and prevention of clinical ophthalmic diseases. |
