Abstract:To understand the serotype distribution, antimicrobial resistance and pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) molecular typing characteristics of non-typhoid salmonella (NTS) in Guizhou Province, we identified 191 NTS clinical isolates through biochemical methods and performed serotyping with the micro broth dilution method against 16 antimicrobial agents; molecular typing was detected by PFGE. A total of 191 clinical isolates were identified as 18 serotypes. The dominant serotypes were Salmonella Typhimurium (45.5%, 87/191) and Salmonella Enteritidis (29.3%, 56/191). A total of 96.8% (185/191) of the isolates showed resistance to the antimicrobial agents tested. Resistance to sulfaisoxazole, streptomycin, ampicillin, tetracycline and doxycycline reached as high as >60.0%. Resistance to ceftriaxone and ciprofloxacin was found in 7.9% (15/191) and 13.1% (25/191) of the isolates, respectively. Approximately 84.3% (161/191) of the isolates were identified as multi-drug resistant (MDR). Sixty-nine antimicrobial resistance profiles were observed, and the major antimicrobial resistance profiles were ampicillin+streptomycin+sulfamethoxazole+nalidixic, and ampicillin+chloramphenicol+ streptomycin+sulfamethoxazole+ tetracycline+doxycycline+trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. Eighty-seven S.Typhimurium isolates were divided into 60 PFGE types, and the dominant type was JPXX01.GZ0047 (12.6%, 11/87). Fifty-six S. Enteritidis isolates were divided into 21 PFGE types, and the dominant type was JEGX01.GZ0005 (23.3%, 13/56). S. Typhimurium and S. Enteritidis were the dominant serotypes of NTS isolates in Guizhou Province. The prevalence of MDR is currently concerningly high. The PFGE types of NTS isolates were highly genetic diverse, and some types were related to antimicrobial resistance profiles.
