19 cases of adbominal injuries of children, caused by a fall upon the handlebar of a cycle, are discussed. The forces which act upon a child’s abdomen while falling against the handlebar have been calculated. There arise forces up to 97 m H₂O against the abdomen of the child, which may result in ruptures of spleen, pancreas or intestines. If the end of the handlebar could be changed or if handles can be developed which are deformable, the enormous forces which act upon the abdomen of a child can be reduced.
