Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of external phrenic nerve electrical stimulation on respiratory function of stroke patients.Methods From August 2020 to May 2021,fifty convalescent stroke patients were randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group,25 in each group.Both groups were treated with routine rehabilitation training.However,the intervention group was additionally given external phrenic nerve electrical stimulation.Before and after four weeks of treatment,diaphragmatic function,pulmonary ventilation function,and respiratory muscle strength of both groups were evaluated.Results After 4 weeks of treatment,diaphragmatic activity,forced vital capacity,forced expiratory volume in the first second,peak expiratory flow rate,maximal expiratory pressure and maximal inspiratory pressure in the two groups were increased compared to before treatment.The intervention group increased more significantly than the control group did.All differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion External phrenic nerve electrical stimulation can notably improve the respiratory function of stroke patients.
