Abstract: | The present efforts to improve standards of living throughout the world would be threatened by high population growth rates. In three different ways the World Bank is trying to do something about this problem: a) increasing awareness of adverse consequences of population growth, b) alerting national leaders to the demographic conditions of their own countries, c) giving aid to countries willing to implement programs for reduction of growth rates. Tables complement the text in summarizing the growth of lending by the Bank and the International Development Association and indicating future planned activities. |
