Construction and management of the infection prophylaxis system in dental therapy

Infectious diseases are increasing in China, and some of them may be transmitted in dental procedures. Risk factors, such as the crowded treatment environment, invasive procedures using high-speed equipments or ultrasonic scaler, and spreading of blood and saliva droplets containing pathogenic microbials by high-speed spinning devices, all increase the risk of transmission of infectious diseases. To prevent iatrogenic infections, it’s very important to standardize the treatment environment, precaution protocols against infections and dental management protocols. The hospital should improve and implement the pre-procedure infectious disease screening, establish clinical medical records and strictly execute sterilization and isolation protocols. With increased optimization of the medical hardwares, improving the medical staffs’ protection awareness and sterile concepts can minimize cross infection and act as an important barrier against iatrogenic infections.
