Abstract:【Objective】To evaluate whether body mass index(BMI)can predict insulin resistance in elderly diabetic patients.【Methods】One hundred elderly diabetic patients diagnosed in our hospital from June 2018 to December 2019 were selected.According to 75%of the value of homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)index,which was 2.3 in this study,the patients were divided into the control group and the insulin resistance group,50 cases in each group.The levels of fasting blood glucose,fasting insulin,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),height and weight,and the relationship between BMI and insulin resistance were analyzed.【Results】There was no significant difference in age,gender,LDL-C and TC between the two groups(P>0.05).The BMI,HDL-C and TG of the insulin resistance group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between BMI and HOMA-IR(r=0.414,P<0.05),and the area under ROC curve was 0.749(P<0.05).【Conclusion】BMI can be used as a predictor of insulin resistance in elderly diabetic patients.
