An improved technique of rubber band ligation of hemorrhoids

Based on the new concept that a hemorrhoid is caused by downward displacement of the anal cushion, rubber band ligation is applied on the redundant rectal mucosa above the hemorrhoid to prevent prolapse. The Hinkel-James anoscope is an ideal instrument for this purpose. It gives excellent exposure of the rectal mucosa and prevents the anal cushion from incorporating into the banding.
