Correlation of Carotid Artery Plaque and Serum 25-OH-D in Middle-aged and Elderly People

OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between carotid artery plaque and serum 25-OH-D in middle-aged and elderly people.METHODS A total of 412 residents of Beicai area were selected from January 2019 to December 2020.Clinical data of the participants were collected.The serum of 25-OH-D and other biochemical indexes were measured.They were divided into carotid artery plaque group(CAP group)and non-carotid artery plaque(n-CAP group)by the vascular b-ultrasound.There were 268 patients in CAP group and 144 patients in n-CAP group.The differences of serum 25-OH-D level between the two groups were compared.RESULTS Serum 25-OH-D level was(45.18±18.71)nmol/L.the plaque-free group was(56.12±19.54)nmol/L,the difference of the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis results showed that carotid artery plaque was positively correlated with systolic blood pressure,HbA1C and age(r=0.388,0.119,0.128,P<0.05),and negatively correlated with 25-OH-D(r=-0.365,P<0.01).25-OH-D(OR=0.973,95%CI:0.960~0.985,P<0.05)was an independent factor that associated with carotid plaque formation.CONCLUSION The lower 25-OH-D levels were an independent risk factor for carotid plaque formation.
