Abstract: | Plasma and saliva pentoxifylline concentrations were measured by HPLC in nine volunteers aged from 19 to 32 years given Trental at a dose of 200 mg on an empty stomach. Plasma and saliva pentoxifylline concentrations were determined, along with pharmacokinetic parameters. There was a strong linear correlation (r = 0.9308) between mean blood and saliva pentoxifylline concentrations. There were no significant differences in blood and saliva pentoxifylline concentrations at any time point or in pharmacokinetic parameters calculated from plasma and saliva distributions. The results obtained here show that saliva samples can be used instead of blood for studies of the pharmacokinetics of pentoxifylline. __________ Translated from Khimiko-Farmatsevticheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 42, No. 1, pp. 3–5, January, 2008. |
