Changes of peripheral blood cytokines in patients with different vascular cognitive impairment subtypes
Abstract:Objective To investigate the characteristics of changes of peripheral blood cytokines including IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α in patients with different vascular cognitive impairment(VCI) subtypes. Methods Forty-four patients with VCI no-dementia(group VCI-ND) ,50 patients with vascular dementia(group VaD) and 47 patients with mixed vascular dementia(group VCI-Mixed)were recruited. At the same time period, 40 individuals undergoing healthy examination were selected as control(group control). The serum levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α were measured with ELISA kits and compared between different groups. Results IL-1β and TNF-α increased significantly in group VCI-ND, group VaD and group VCI-Mixed compared with group control (P<0.05). Furthermore, IL-6 augmented in group VCI-ND and group VaD compared with group VCIMixed (P<0.05). Conclusion The results suggest that inflammation is a common phenomenon in pathological process of VCI and the main characteristics are raised serum levels of IL-1β and TNF-α. However, the serum concentration of IL-6 may he dominant in VCI subtype without AD.
