DEVELOPMENT OF CHEMICAL INDICATOR FOR DISINFECTION WITH ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION
Abstract:A chemical indicator for monitoring disinfection process of ultraviolet radiation was developed. The functional part of the indicator is made of polyethylene strip coated with a layer of photosensitive substance. When it was exposed to UV, its color changed from white to light pink. The larger the irradiation dose was, the deeper the color turned (the higher the photo-densitometric value). The irradiation dose (dose rate×time)showed positive correlation with the photodensitometric value Y=0.001-0.00002X, r=0.99, The photosensitive substance used is onlt sensitive to 253.7 nm UV and has no reaction to fluorescent light and incandesceny lamp. The sunlight can cause only a slight color change.The chemical indicator can be used for measuring the radiation intensity of UV lamp and for determining whether the required dose is achieved during disinfection of air, water and surface.
