Abstract:Objective:To investigate the neuroprotective role of estrogen by observing the effects of estrogen on SOD activity and MDA contents in cerebral ischemia reperfusion. Methods: 48 adult famale pallasiomies were randomly divided into four groups: normal group(A), intact group(B), ovariectomixed group(C) and E2 treated ovariectomixed group(D). The pallasiomies'cerebral ischemia reperfusion models were made by the bilateral occlusion of common carotid arteries. 12 h after operation, the pallasiomies were decapitated and the brain tissues were sampled to measure SOD activity and MDA contents. Results: Compared with the C group, SOD activities were markedly increased and MDA contents were reduced in the B and D groups. Conclusion: Estrogen can decrease the production of oxygen free radicals in cerebral ischemia reperfusion, which may be an important mechanism in estrogen mediated neuroprotection.
Keywords:estrogen  cerebral ischemia reperfusion  SOD  MDA  pallasiomies
