Value of total kidney volume in evaluating progression and prognosis of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease:a Meta-analysis

Objective To explore the value of total kidney volume(TKV)in predicting the progression and prognosis of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease(ADPKD).Methods Cochrane Library,PubMed,Embase,CNKI and other databases were searched for the literatures on the associations of TKV with disease progression and prognosis in the patients with ADPKD.The retrieval period was from the establishment of each database to September 2019.After meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria,literature screening,quality assessment,basic characteristics of literature and related data extraction were carried out,and Meta-analysis was performed by STATA 12.0 software.Results There were 1982 ADPKD patients involved in 13 literature studies.Meta-analysis showed that TKV had a moderate predictive value for the severity of ADPKD(r=-0.45,95%CI:-0.49--0.41).Subgroup analysis by region showed the predictive value of TKV in North America(r=-0.46,95%CI:-0.50--0.42),in Asia(r=-0.38,95%CI:-0.48--0.27)and in Europe(r=-0.46,95%CI:-0.60--0.29).Subgroup analysis by kidney measurement method showed that TKV had predictive value in ultrasound group(r=-0.50,95%CI:-0.56--0.42)and in MRI group(r=-0.44,95%CI:-0.48--0.40).Conclusions TKV has a moderate predictive value for the prognosis and disease progression of ADPKD and may vary in different regions and different measurement method,but does not affect the overall results.It can be used as an effective indicator for monitoring the condition of patients with ADPKD in clinical and drug trials.
