Abstract:Objective It is to explore the effect of drinking green tea on vascular cognitive impairment(VCI)and MRI.Methods According to the frequency of green tea consumption,77 participants with VCI were divided into A group(0 or <1 cup/d),B group(1-2 cups/d),C group(3-5 cups/d or more). All participants underwent neuropsychological tests including Mini Mental State Examination(MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA).The white matter lesions and strategic areas were visually assessed using MRI.Results The vascular risk factor among participants with various frequency of green tea consumption had no difference(P>0.05).The scores of cognitive function for those in group C were better than the ones in the other two groups(P<0.05).The periventricular hyperintensity(PVH) and strategic areas on MRI showed no significant difference among various groups(P>0.05).But the white matter high signal(WMHS) on MRI for those with 1-2 cups/d or 3-5 cups/d green tea consumption less than those who consumed 0 or <1 cup/d(P<0.05).Conclusion The VCI participants with long-tern green tea consumption had mild lesion of cerebral white matter and better cognitive function.
Keywords:green tea  vascular cognitive impairment  white matter  vascular risk factor  MRI
