Treating of upper urinary tract calculi in a solitary kidney (53 cases reports )

Objectives To investigate the feasibility and clinical effect of minimally invasive technique in treating upper urinary tract calculi in a solitary kidney. Methods A total of 53 patients were diagnosed as solitary kidney with upper urinary tract calculi. Of the 53 cases,8 cases were treated by ESWL, 36 by mPCNL and 9 by URL. Results The stone free rate of ESWL was 85.9％. The stone free rate of URL was 100％ in patients with middle and lower ureteral calculi and 76％, in patients with ureteral calculi respectively. No ureter perforation and avulsion were noted in the URL group. After mPCNL the stone - free rate was 94％, and no pelvic perforation and parenchyma laceration were recorded. Conclusions Treatment of upper urinary tract calculi by mPCNL is less invasive,safe and relatively effective,and should be an alternative for upper urinary tract calculi in a solitary kidney.
