The Diagnosis and Therapy of Nine cases Granulocytic Sarcoma

Objective To study the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatments and prognostic features of granulocytic sarcoma (GS). Methods From October 2006 to August 2009, nine cases who diagnosed as GS in the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University were included into this study. The Clinical data of the nine patients were analyzed. The related literatures were reviewed as well. Results Two patients were diagnosed as primary GS. One case occurred before acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Three eases occurred concurrently with AML, and the other 3 cases were the manifestation of extramedullary relapse. All patients received resection and chemotherapy. Four patients received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Among the 9 patients, 2 cases failed to be followed up, 1 patient died after 30 months therapy, and the other 6 patients are still alive. Conclusion GS is a rarely diagnosed entity. Presenting symptoms varied depending on the different patient and tumor location. The diagnosis of GS depends on immunopathology. Chemotherapy is the proper treatment for GS. High dose of chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation might improve the prognosis of GS.
