Abstract:Background Bispetral index(BIS) or cerebral state index(CSI) has been usually applied in anaesthesia depth monitoring in clinic for many years, while another important index, burst suppression (BS) is almost ignored. Few reports about BS,especially on it's mechanism were published. Therefore, the review about BS was done in order to be noticed by more people.Objective The text played a role of inducing someone to acquaintance, research and explore the value of BS. Content The occurring mechanism of BS, the association between BS and neural electrophysiology and the application in the clinic were introduced in the text. Trend The effective mechanism of general anesthetic drugs remains unclear,the research of BS maybe contribute to resolving the question. In another way, BS may play an important role in anaesthesia depth monitoring, brain vascular operation, etc.
