Abstract:A case of disseminated adenovirus type 32 infection causing severe hepatitis, gastrointestinal ulceration and also with respiratory involvement is reported in a bone marrow transplant recipient. Typical viral inclusions were seen in the postmortem histological sections and adenovirus infection was confirmed using in situ hybridisation and isolation of adenovirus type 32 from separate organs at necropsy. This is the first case in which adenovirus 32 was the cause of fatal disseminated disease in a bone marrow transplant recipient.
