Abstract:Objective To evaluate the current status of food safety by monitoring the harmful chemical pollutants in commercially available foods in Xinxiang City so as to provide a scientific basis for adopting relevant control measures. Methods A total of 488 samples of commercially available foods were randomly collected from four representative districts and seven counties in Xinxiang City in 2016 according to the National Food Pollution and Hazardous Factors Risk Monitoring Work Manual in 2016. 150 indicators of 10 categories of foods were tested and evaluated in accordance with China Food Safety National Standard for Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Foods (GB 2762-2012) and China Food Safety National Standard for Food Additive Use (GB 2760-2014). Results A total of 488 samples were detected, and the total qualified rate was 94.26% (460/488). The qualified rates was 90.00% for vegetables and vegetable products, 95.00% for fruits, 89.41% for nitrite and 68.75% for chromium in meat and meat products, 25.00% for tea substitutes, 91.67% for children’s food and 90.00% for alcohol. The detection rate of cadmium in leaf of Chinese holly (75.00%) was the highest, followed by chromium in pork skin jelly (56.25%). Conclusions The overall situation of food safety in Xinxiang City is acceptable, but there are still heavy metals, pesticide residues, nitrite and other pollutants exceeding the standards.
