Clinical analysis of 28 cases of cesarean scar pregnancy with the treatment of uterine artery embolization

Objective To evaluate the security and effectiveness of the uterine artery embolization in the treatment of cesarean scar pregnancy.Methods From June,2008 to December,2010,28 patients undergoing uterine artery embolization for their cesarean scar pregnancy were studied retrospectively.All of their diagnosis were assumed by clinical color Doppler ultrasound.Twenty-eight cases were treated with uterine artery embolization before curettage,by using Seldinger technique,the bilateral uterine arteries were embolization with 1mm3 Gelfoam particles（50-60 each side）.Results All of the 28 patients were successfully retained the reproductive function.Twenty-four cases had bleeding60 ml during curettage who were treated with curettage wihin seven days after uterine artery embolization;four cases who were treated with curettage 7 days after uterine artery embolization treatment underwent emergency,and then were treated with laparotomy hysterectomy uterine scar and uterine repair and plug yarn line the uterine cavity.Twenty-eight cases＇ hospital stay were 7-25 days（an average of 14 days,median 12 days） after curettage.Telephone follow-up six months after discharge,26 patients recovered normal menstruation（two lost Follow-up）.Conclusion Uterine artery embolization is an effective,safe and minimally invasive method with low risk of heavy bleeding for the treatment of cesarean scar pregnancy,which should be the first choice for patients with cesarean scar pregnancy.
