Abstract:Most pregnant women experience morning sickness during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Often, the symptoms are mild, but recurring, nausea and vomiting; but the condition can also lead to dehydration, weight loss, electrolyte imbalance and blood volume depletion, and many women with more severe forms of the condition present to emergency departments. This article describes the presenting symptoms, causes of hyperemesis gravidarum, the associated clinical signs and complications, and the most common treatments offered.
