The role and research progress of tumor self-seeding by circulating tumor cells in the progression of malignant tumors

The discovery of the phenomenon of tumor self-seeding by circulating tumor cells(CTCs)suggests the bidirectional circulation of CTCs.In addition to distant dissemination and colonization to form metastases,CTCs can re-seed the primary tumor with the circulation and promote the growth of primary tumor,which provides a new explanation for the progression of malignant tumor,such as tumor growth,metastasis and recurrence.Recent researches have revealed the key factors and specific mechanisms that are involved in the process of tumor self-seeding by CTCs,which have important research values for blocking the tumor self-seeding process and delaying tumor progression.It is hoped that people will gain a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms on the progression of malignant tumors with the deepening of the researches on tumor self-seeding by CTCs,thus providing a new basis for the development of comprehensive tumor treatment strategies.
