Abstract:Objective To investigate the value of iodine density(ID)using dual-layer detector spectral CT for evaluating the adrenal glands at different functional statuses.Methods From June 2019 to August 2020,a series of consecutive patients who underwent enhanced adrenal CT using dual-layer spectral detector CT scanner were divided into three groups of bilateral adrenal gland swelling with septic shock(26),bilateral or left adrenal hyperplasia(16),and right adrenal adenoma with hypercortisolism and feedback inhibition atrophy of left adrenal gland(17).30 patients with normal adrenal glands were then matched as negative controls.In all patients,ID of their left adrenal glands(ID;)and aorta(ID;)were assessed in the arterial phase,and then the normalized ID(NID=IDadrenal/IDaorta)was calculated.The arterial ID and NID between groups were compared.Results ID of bilateral adrenal gland swelling with septic shock(2.00±0.85)mg/ml was significantly higher than that of normal control(1.41±0.76)mg/ml(P=0.023<0.05).NID of bilateral adrenal gland swelling with septic shock(0.22±0.11)and bilateral or left adrenal hyperplasia(0.24±0.06)were significantly higher than that of right adrenal adenoma with hypercortisolism(0.16±0.04,P;<0.001,P;=0.01)and normal control(0.15±0.07,P;<0.001,P;=0.004).There was no significant difference in ID and NID of remaining groups.Conclusion The NID may reflect adrenal gland hyperfunction.
