Abstract:The effect of antiepilepsirine, a derivative of piperine, on the development of rat amygdala kindling seizures was studied. An average of daily consecutive 15 stimulations was needed to reach the first stage 5 seizures at which the rats showed behavioral convulsions and elcctroencephalographic abnormalities. Chronic administration of antiepilepsirine at a daily dose of 85 mg/kg ip for consecutive 10 times 2h before standard stimulation siginifieantly doubled the stimulations needed to reach the first stage 5 seizures, while less affected the afterdischarge duration. The results demonstrate that antiepilepsirine has a pronounced prophylactic effect on the development of kindling seizures.
