辨病就是了解和掌握疾病的基本矛盾及疾病的演变规律，而辨证是对疾病发展过程中某一个阶段的概括，二者从不同的角度反映出疾病的本质。只辨病不辨证不能了解到疾病的特殊性，而过分强调辨证则容易忽略疾病发生的本质。“以病为纲，以证为目，病证结合”的诊治方式既可以发挥传统医学的整体观，又可以吸收现代医学的研究成果。
