Abstract: | Mammary tumours arise in the GR/A-mouse strain at pregnancy. Such tumours are initially pregnancy-dependent, i.e. regress after parturition. The tumours undergo progression: at subsequent pregnancies postpartum regression becomes less complete and finally growth is independent of hormones. The content of oestrogen ‘receptors’ in pregnancy-dependent and independent tumours of GR/A-mice has been determined. It was found that the dependent and non-regressing tumours contained such receptors while the independent tumours had low levels or absence of receptors. The parallel loss of oestrogen receptors and hormone dependence suggest that oestrogens play a role for growth and control at the dependent stage. |
