Abstract:Objective To observe the effects of kakkonein on cognitive and auditory event - related potentials P300 in patients with Vascular dementia (VaD) o Methods 70 patients with VaD were randomly divided into two groups : Kakkonein group ( n = 35 ), treated with kakkonein injection; Control group (n = 35 ), treated with basic medicine o Cognitive function and the amelioration of intelligence were assessed with mini mental state examination (MMSE), and tBO0 was detected before and after treatmento The side effects of the drugs were recorded at the same timeo Results 35 cases in both groups were involved in the analysis of resultso There were no sigrtificant differences in the scores of MMSE,P300 lateneies and amplitudes from target before treatment between the two groups (all P 〉 0.05 ) o The scores of MMSE increased significantly ( all P 〈 0. 01 ) , P300 latencies reduced and amplitudes increased significantly( kakkonein group P 〈 O. O1, control group P 〈 0. 05 ) in both two groupsl4 d and 30 d after treatment. The intellectual amelioration was significant in the kakkonein group than that of in the control group (91.4% ,71.4% ) (P 〈 0. 05 ) o No obvious adverse reaction was observed during treatment in both groupso Conclusions Kakkonein can improve the cognitive function in patients with VaD, It may be relate to cerebral protective effects and expanding cerebral vessels of kakkonein.
Keywords:kakkonein  Vascular dementia  cognitive function  P300
