Relationship between hormone levels and atherosclerosis in menopausal women

Objective To research the relationship between hormone levels and atherosclerosis(AS)in menopausal women.Methods From January 2018 to April 2019,142 hospitalized menopausal women undergoing coronary angiogram in Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in Yinchuan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected as study object.The levels of sex hormones were detected,including estradiol(E₂),testosterone(T),follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),luteinizing hormone(LH)and E₂/T.Coronary angiogram was performed,the menopausal women were divided into AS group(86 cases)and non-AS group(56 cases)according to the result of coronary angiogram.The result of coronary angiogram in AS group was evaluated,then the cases were divided into single vessel disease group(32 cases),double vessel disease group(28 cases),and three vessel disease group(26 cases).Gensini score was used to evaluate the degree of coronary artery disease.The levels of sex hormones in AS group and non-AS group were compared.The levels of sex hormones in single vessel disease group,double vessel disease group,and three vessel disease group were observed.The levels of sex hormones in cases with different Gensini scores were analyzed.The correlations between sex hormone levels and Gensini score in AS group were analyzed.Results The levels of E₂ and E₂/T in AS group were statistically significantly lower than those in non-AS group,while T level in AS group was statistically significantly higher than that in non-AS group(P<0.05).The levels of E₂ and E₂/T in single vessel disease group were statistically significantly higher than those in double vessel disease group and three vessel disease group,E₂/T level in double vessel disease group was statistically significantly higher than that in three vessel disease group(P<0.05).The levels of E₂ and E₂/T in Gensini score<20 group were statistically significantly higher than those in Gensini score 20-40 group and Gensini score>40 group,the levels of E₂ and E₂/T in Gensini score 20-40 group were statistically significantly higher than those in Gensini score>40 group(P<0.05).In AS group,Gensini score was negatively correlated with E₂ and E₂/T levels(r=-0.196,-0.213,P=0.011,0.006).Conclusion The levels of hormones in menopausal women are closely related to AS.
