Abstract:Summary The activity of glutamate decarboxylase in the brain of white rats exposed to CS2 was measured. The lower activity of the enzyme in rats intoxicated with CS2 was parallel to the decreased level of gamma-aminobutyric acid. Pyridoxal phosphate did not prevent inhibition of the enzyme activity. It is suggested that the inhibition of the activity of glutamate decarboxylase by CS2 is responsible for lower level of gamma-aminobutyric acid in the brain of rats intoxicated with CS2.
