Activity of glutamate decarboxylase in the brain of rats exposed to carbon disulfide

Summary The activity of glutamate decarboxylase in the brain of white rats exposed to CS₂ was measured. The lower activity of the enzyme in rats intoxicated with CS₂ was parallel to the decreased level of -aminobutyric acid. Pyridoxal phosphate did not prevent inhibition of the enzyme activity. It is suggested that the inhibition of the activity of glutamate decarboxylase by CS₂ is responsible for lower level of -aminobutyric acid in the brain of rats intoxicated with CS₂.
