Long-term Therapeutic Evaluation of Plastic Femoral Head Prosthesis

This paper evaluated the long-term result of replacing the diseased femoral head with a plastic one of national made polymethylmethacrylate. The choice of the prosthetic materials, surgical procedures, indications, criterion of efficiency and prevention of complications were discussed. Simultaneously, the affecting factors to the effi- ciency were also assessed. It is suggested that essential and concrete measures would be taken to promote the efficiency and to prevent complications. The method recommended in this article suits not only for aged patients, but also for those less than 60 years old with contraindications for or refusing to receive other therapeutic modalities, including prolong traction and manipulative reduction.The latter methods are not more efficacious than the regimen recommended here. In addition. this method is simple, convenient and cost reasonably with excellent efficiency in concordance with the circumstances of elementary medical unites.
