Glycoprotein IIIa gene polymorphisms and risk for coronary artery disease in Chinese Urumqi Uygur and Han population

Objective To determine whether a variant (Pl A2 )of the membrane glycoprotein IIIa(GP IIIa)gene is associated with CAD.Furthermore,the association of the polymorphism with the classical ris k factors was analyzed.Methods Blood was drawn from 105patients(pt)and 56controls,some of those underg oing angiography.A266base pair fra gment of the GP IIIa gene was amplifie d by the polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and digested with the MspI restricti on enzyme.Genotypes were identifie d after electrophoresis of digestio n products in 2.0%a-garose gel.Results Of the 105patients(pt),65had acute(n =19)or previous MI,20had unstable angin a(UAP),and 20had stable angina(SAP).The Pl A2 allele was carried by 0%of CAD pt versus 1.8%of Non-CAD control subjects i n Chinese Urumqi Uygur and Han population.The Pl A2 allele was carried by 0%of CAD pt vers us 7.7%of Non-CAD control subjects i n Uygur population.The Pl A2 allele was found in 0%of CAD pt versus 0%of Non-C AD control subjects in Han populatio n.Conclusions The Pl A2 variant of the gene GP IIIa is not associated with CAD in Uygur populat ion and Han population in Urumqi city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
