Abstract:Intraductal ultrasonography (IDUS) is useful for evaluating the horizontal spread along the main pancreatic duct in cases of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas, thus providing valuable information for the determination of the resection line at surgery. Differentiation between benign and malignant IPMN is also indispensable for management decisions. Measurement of the height of mural nodules by IDUS is expected to be useful for differential diagnosis of IPMN. Because IDUS cannot always demonstrate whole lesions, especially in branch duct IPMN, endoscopic ultrasonography plays a complementary role in such cases.
Keywords:endoscopic ultrasonography  intraductal neoplasm of the pancreas  intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm
