Immunohistochemical studies on hepatitis B markers in the liver tissue of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Summary The incidence and expressive patterns of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and core antigen (HBcAg) in tumorous and nontumorous liver tissue of 50 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were studied with peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique. In nontumcrous liver tissue, the incidence of HBcAg and HBcAg was 76% and 30%; in tumcrous tissue, 14 % and 6 % respectively. The incidence and expressive patterns of HBAg in HCC were similar to those of patients with chronic liver disease, suggesting that hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is closely associated with HCC. The forms of HBV infection, the rate and patterns of the accompanying cirrhosis in patients with HCC were also discussed.

Auszug H?ufigkeit und expressive Figuren des Hepatitis B surface Antigens (HBsAg) und core Antigens (HBcAg) im Tumorgewebe und nicht-tumor?sem Gewebe der Leber von 50 Patienten mit hepatozellul?rem Karzinom (HCC) wurden mittels der Peroxidase-Antiperoxidase-Technik untersucht. In nicht-tumor?sem Gewebe war die Nachweisrate von HBsAg und HBcAg 76 % bzw. 30 %; in Tumorgewebe 14 % bzw. 6 %. Diese Befunde zeigten gro?n ?hnlichkeit mit denjenigen von Patienten mit chronischen Lebererkrankungen. Dieses Ergebnis weist darauf hin, da? enge Zusammenh?nge bestehen zwischen der Hepatitis B-Infektion und dem hepatozellul?ren Karzinom. Die Formen der HBV-Infektion und die H?ufigkeit und Art der begleitenden Leberzirrhose bei den Patienten mit HCC wurden ebenfalls diskutiert.
