Effects of developmentally supportive care applied on premature infants in NICU

Objective To evaluate the effects of developmentally supportive care（DSC） on the preterm infants especially those with extremely low weight or critical diseases. Methods According to the order of admission, 120 premature infants treated in NICU were assigned into two groups ： experimental group and control group, 60 cases for each group. The control group was given routine care, while the experimental group was given developmentally supportive care as well as routine care,including identifying care plans, optimizing treatment environment, pain care, nest - type and kangaroo - type care, non - nutritive sucking. Weight,feeding volume,and the average hospital stays were collected and compared between the two groups. Results The preterm infants in the experimental group were superior to those in the control group in weight, feeding volume, and the hospital stays obviously （ P 〈 0.01 ）. Conclusion Developmentally supportive care can promote the development of preterm infants and critical diseased children, shorten the hospital stays.
