Efficacy of voice training on voice quality in patients with vocal cord paralysis after thyroid surgery

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of early voice training on the improving of the voice quality of patients with vocal cord paralysis after thyroid surgery.METHODS Forty-eight patients with vocal cord paralysis after thyroid surgery in our hospital were selected as the research objects and were divided into experimental group and control group according to the principle of randomized control(24 cases each).In the experimental group,voice training was started 1 week after surgery,the control group had nonintervention.Subjective and objective assessment of voice quality and stroboscopic laryngoscopy were performed respectively at 1,12 and 24 weeks after surgery,and the data of the two groups were compared and analyzed.RESULTS At 12 weeks after surgery,the mean voice handicap index(VHI),GRBAS scores of B and A,Jitter,Shimmer,MPT and the degree of glottis closure in the experimental group were significantly different from the control group(P<0.05).At 24 weeks after surgery,VHI and MPT of the experimental group were still better than the control group(P<0.05),and all other parameters showed no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).CONCLUSION Early voice training for patients with vocal cord paralysis after thyroid surgery can improve the voice quality of patients in the early stage.
