Abstract: | Myocardial viability assessment is useful in patients with severe coronary artery disease and severe left ventricular dysfunction. Whereas most studies have focused on recovery of regional function, there are emerging data on patient outcome. Review of these data suggests that patients with chronic ischemia, cardiomyopathy, and viable myocardium who are treated medically have a worse, outcome than those treated with coronary revascularization. However, there are no prospective randomized trials. We present perspectives for future studies. |
