The Clinical Observation of Oxaliplatin Combined with Three Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy in the Treatment of the Elderly Patients with Advanced Esophageal Carcinoma

Objective To observe the efficacy and toxicities of oxaliplatin combined with three dimensional conformal radiation therapy in the treatment of the elderly patients with advanced esophageal carcinoma.Methods All the 80 elderly patients with advanced esophageal carcinoma were randomly divided into two groups.The 40 patients in the trial group received oxaliplatin and three dimensional conformal radiation therapy;the 40 patients in the control group received three dimensional conformal radiation therapy.The efficacy and toxicities were evaluated after treatment.Results The response rate was 90.0% in the trial group,and was 72.5% in the control group(P<0.05).The 1-,2-and 3-year survival rates were 56.5%,31.5%,22.0% in the trial group,and were 48.5%,28.5%,18.0%in the control group(P<0.05).The incidences of common toxicities of the two groups were low,and the toxicities were light;but the incidence of neurotoxicity in the trial group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Oxaliplatin combined with three dimensional conformal radiation therapy can improve the short term efficacy of the elderly patients with advanced esophageal carcinoma,and its toxicities are tolerable.
