Abstract: | Sera from 29 patients with systemic sclerosis and 30 normalcontrols were examined for their effect on prostacyclin releaseby human umbilical vein endothelial cells during periods ofresponse of 15 min and 72 h and for their effect on endothelialgrowth and 3H-thymidine uptake during a 72-h culture period. In contrast to previous reports, no significant differenceswere detected between patient and control sera in their effecton endothelial cell prostacyclin release, growth or 3H-thymidineuptake.
