Abstract:Decompression of the tarsal tunnel has been performed since the 1960s and has resulted in variable outcomes. The success rate of this procedure has ranged from 44% to 95%. We review the anatomy of the tarsal tunnel region and offer a detailed surgical approach for the decompression of its contents. We also discuss the role of this procedure in leg lengthening and deformity correction of the foot and ankle.
Keywords:tarsal tunnel   posterior tibial nerve   nerve decompression   realignment   and medial and lateral plantar nerve
