Abstract:Objective To observe the changes of nitrogen oxides in the exhaled breath condensates (EBC) of patients with type 2 diabetes,and to provide a new method for the diagnosis of lung injury in type 2 diabetes.Methods 36 patients with type 2 diabetes and 31 healthy people were recruited.The pulmonary function tests were evaluated.Nitrogen oxides in EBC were measured by the spectrophotometry and nitric oxide assay kit.Results The concentrations of NO2ˉ and NO2ˉ/NO3ˉ in EBC of type 2 diabetes patients were higher than those in healthy group (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).FEV1 %pred,DLCO and DLCO %pred of type 2 diabetes patients were lower than those of healthy group (all P <0.05).The concentrations of NO2ˉand NO2ˉ/NO3ˉ in EBC of type 2 diabetes patients were relative with FEV1 % pred,DLCO and DLCO % pred ( P <0.05 or P <0.01).Conclusions Nitrogen oxides in EBC may play an important role in the pathogenesis of the lung injury of type 2 diabetes patients.
