Abstract:Objective To detect the expression of CARM1 and p16INK4a proteins in cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions and cervical squamous cell carcinoma(CSCC)tissues,and discuss their action and interaction during the occurrence and development of CSCC.Methods Immunohistochemistry methods were used to detect the expression of CARM1 and p16INK4a proteins in cervical intraepithelial lesions and CSCC tissues,the relationship among their expression,clinicopathological characteristics and survival prognosis of CSCC were analyzed.Results The expression of CARM1 and p16INK4a coincidently increased in normal cervical tissue,low-grade cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions(LSIL),high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions(HSIL)and CSCC tissues.The positive expression rate of CARM1 in CSCC tissues was 70.24%,which was correlated with differentiation and invasive depth of CSCC.The positive expression rate of P16INK4a in CSCC tissues was 92.86%,which was related to differentiation of CSCC.Kaplan-Meiri analysis revealed that CARM1 expression was correlated with overall survival(OS).Cox proportional hazards model showed that stage was the only independent prognostic factor of CSCC.The correlation coefficient of CARM1 and p16INK4a expression was 0.325 by Spearman correlation analysis.Conclusions CARM1 and p16INK4a proteins might be involved in the occurrence and development of CSCC,and also were adverse prognostic factors.There may be some synergy between them.
