Effects comparison of mini-plate internal fixation and Kirschner wire internal fixation on metacarpal fractures

Objective：To investigate the clinical efficiency of mini-plate internal fixation and Kirschner wire internal fixation on metacarpal fractures.Methods：A total of 68 cases with metacarpal fractures（82 fractures） were randomly divided into mini-plate group（34 cases and 40 fractures） and Kirschner group（34 cases,42 fractures） for efficiency comparison between the two groups.Results：An average of（9.8±3.5）months follow up ranging from 3-18 months showed all 82 fractures in the 68 cases were healed.The excellence/good rate and infection rate of the mini-plate group vs Kirschner group were 90.00% and 5.00% vs 66.67% and 23.81%,showing significant differences in both of the two indexes between the two groups（P〈0.05）.Length of operation time was longer and healing duration of the mini-plate group was shorter than that of the Kirschner group（P〈0.05）.Conclusion：With advantages of stable fixation,better and quicker bone healing,earlier functional training,mini-plate fixation shows better effects on metacarpal and phalangeal fractures comparing with Kirschner wire fixation.
