Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical efficiency of mini-plate internal fixation and Kirschner wire internal fixation on metacarpal fractures.Methods:A total of 68 cases with metacarpal fractures(82 fractures) were randomly divided into mini-plate group(34 cases and 40 fractures) and Kirschner group(34 cases,42 fractures) for efficiency comparison between the two groups.Results:An average of(9.8±3.5)months follow up ranging from 3-18 months showed all 82 fractures in the 68 cases were healed.The excellence/good rate and infection rate of the mini-plate group vs Kirschner group were 90.00% and 5.00% vs 66.67% and 23.81%,showing significant differences in both of the two indexes between the two groups(P〈0.05).Length of operation time was longer and healing duration of the mini-plate group was shorter than that of the Kirschner group(P〈0.05).Conclusion:With advantages of stable fixation,better and quicker bone healing,earlier functional training,mini-plate fixation shows better effects on metacarpal and phalangeal fractures comparing with Kirschner wire fixation.
