Abstract:The authors investigated quantitatively the changes of ealcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)rats prepared by oleic acid with immunohistochemical method and automatic image-analysis technology. The result showed a great decline in both the number of CGRP-positive cells and the integral optical density of the cell (P<0.01 ). The findings reveal that the pulmonary amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation ( APUD) cells could be affected by oleic acid and release CGRP and other peptides or amines which might play an important role in the occurrence of RDS.This experiment points out a close association between the pulmonary APUD cells and RDS that may be a clue for reviewing the mechanism of RDS (ARDS) and providing the available means in the clinical treatment.
