The effect of storage conditions on lipid peroxidation in erythrocytes

Abstract:Lipid peroxidation products in red cells should be examined within 24 hrs after blood collection. If it is impossible, the blood or treated red cells can be stored at 4-6 degrees C for up to 3 days. A lower storage temperature promotes a drastic reduction of diene conjugate and malonic dialdehyde levels within the first 24 hrs.
