The clinical study on the application of Prolift system and Gynemesh in total pelvic floor reconstructive surgery

Objective To investigate the application of Prolift system and Gynemesh in total pelvic floor reconstruction and to explore suitable mesh for total pelvic floor reconstruction.Methods Twenty-seven women who were admitted to our department from January 2008 to February 2010 underwent the surgery for combined defect of pelvic floor.The patients were divided into two groups:11 cases in Gynecare Prolift System surgery(Profit group) and the other 16 cases in the group of revised total pelvic floor construction with Gynemesh(Gynemesh group).The data in pre-,peri-operation and follow-up results in both groups were compared and analyzed respectively.Results There were no significant differences in the body mass index,menopause age and pregnant times between the two groups(P>0.05),and there were no significant differences in prolapse of anterior vaginal wall,uterus,posterior vaginal wall between the two groups(P>0.05).There were no significant differences in operation time,the hemorrhage,the highest body temperature,the residue urine and the time of in-hospital between the two groups(P>0.05).The follow-up rate in Prolift group was 90.9%,with mean time of(12.7±4.3) m.No case had a relapse,and no case occurred erosion after operation,however,one case(10%) occurred constipation.The follow-up rate in Gyenmesh group was 93.8%,with mean time of(19.6±3.4)m.Two cases(13.3%) had relapse,but no case was found erosion in vaginal wall.One case(6.7%) occurred exposure in anterior vaginal wall.Conclusion Both Prolift system and Gynemesh system are safe and feasible.According to the short term clinical outcomes,the Prolift system is little better than the Gyenmesh,but the long term outcomes need further study.
