Abstract:In modern times with the advances in otorhinolaryngology, the important role of a functioning Eustachian tube in the successful management of various diseases of the ear has been established beyond doubt. Various methods like Valsalva, Politzerisation, Eustachian tube catheterisation and radiographic study have been in practice to assess the tubal function for a long time. In recent years another test called the Bortnick Miller test has been evolved as a quantitative measure of the Eustachian tube function. An evaluation of the different tests, regarding their practica bility and accuracy in middle ear disease, is presented.
