Abstract:Objective To evaluate the value of high energy positron imaging in the diagnosis of colon neoplasm. Methods Twenty-five patients with recently diagnosed or suspected colon tumors were examined with high energy positron imaging before operation. According to pathological diagnosis, we analyzed the sensitivity and specificity of high energy positron imaging for detecting the primary metastastic lesions, and the ratio of target-to-background counts between benign and malignant tumors. Results The sensitivity and specificity of high energy positron imaging were 94.74% and 83.33% in detecting the primary lesions, respectively. The ratio of T/B of malignant lesions was significantly higher than that of benign lesions. Conclusion High energy positron imaging represents a new and non-invasive diagnostic technique with high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of colon tumor.
Keywords:high energy positron imaging  18 F-DDG  colon tumor  molecule coincidence detection
