Abstract:Neurocysticercosis is an infection of the central nervous system by the larvae of the pork tapeworm Taenia sodium. Worldwide it represents the commonest parasitic infection of the central nervous system. However, in Australia, only a small number of cases have been previously recognized. Three cases of neurocysticercosis are reported which illustrate a variety of presentations and diagnostic problems encountered. With the introduction of effective chemotherapeutic agents, current medical and surgical management is reviewed.
