Abstract:Gender differences among adolescents in patterns of endorsement of self-control problems were examined. Eleven potential problem areas were assessed. In six areas, significant departures from expected frequencies were observed. Proportionally more females than males reported difficulty in controlling their behavior in five out of six of the endorsed problem areas. The authors gratefully acknowledge the cooperation of the students and teachers of the St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School and, in particular, the help of Mr. George Hufford, principal. We also wish to thank Rick Oseas and Jim Bauer, who assisted in the data collection.
